WITH BALANCED FIBRE CONTENT
FOR THE HEALTHY FUNCTIONING
OF THE RUMEN

Location of tests:

• Research Institute for Animal Breeding and Nutrition – in sacco and digestive physiological tests (Herceghalom, Hungary, 2016).
• Solum Zrt. – Field experiment with high-yielding dairy cows (Komárom, Hungary, 2016).

Materials and methods:

• Establishing the apparent digestibility of SunPro^®-20 on a sheep model.
• 12 adult wethers were used to test the nutrient digestibility of SunPro^®-20.
• Ruminant degradability of each nutrient (crude protein, fibre fractions) in the rumen was performed by the in sacco method.
• On-farm feeding test: effect of SunPro^®-20 on milk production in dairy cows and milk quality. On-farm test was conducted with Holstein Friesian cows (n=66) to evaluate the effect of SunPro^®-20 (1.5 kg/cow/day) on milk production and milk composition (non-fat dry matter, protein, fat, lactose and urea content). Milk production was registered daily, while the composition of the milk was conducted once a week. After 2 weeks of adaptation, milk production was measured for 9 weeks.

Results:

• Apparent digestibility: the apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and N-free extracts were between 43% and 51%. Over 75% of crude protein and crude fat was digested in the gastrointestinal tract. Protein digestibility reached 79%. The apparent digestibility of the fibre fractions ranged from 21% to 26%.

The treatment had no statistically proven effect (p>0.05) on the non-fat dry matter, fat and protein content of the milk.
